Quarantined

My mom took the boys on a cruise to Hawaii and a few days outside of Los Angeles, Nick came down with Chicken Pox. The boys were quarantined in their room for 7 days and missed leaving the ship in all three Hawaiian ports.

Rollerskating Angel

This is my first quilt that I made with Mary Lou Weidman. I learned how to make the border blocks first and then drew up a story to go on the center block. This is the story of the angel who comes on Jake and Nick's birthday and delivers balloons. She wears rollerskates because she has so many children to deliver balloons to.

Tahoe Quilts

This was my "treasure quilt." My family is my treasure and the middle person is John (or me) I am not good at drawing.



The second day's theme was "masks" and I chose some masks that Jake and Nick bought on our trip to Venice, Italy in July 2007. This is before most of the paint went on.


This was after the entire piece was painted. I added a few more line drawings of buildings. It says in Latin, Peace to you,  o Mark, my evangelist! St. Mark is the patron saint of Venice.





Our third theme was "gardens" this piece is called "Snail Mary full of Grace" it is a statue of Mary in my backyard that the snails love to climb all over.

I went to Art Quilt Tahoe and took a class from Susan Shie. She is an amazing teacher who does huge journal quilts that she paints and airbrushes and then writes on. Here are three of the quilt tops that I did in her class. We had a different topic every day, the first day was treasure, the second was masks, and the third was gardens.

This is what the teachers quilt looked like. I am changing some of the pictures to suit my memories of Christmas.




I have been working on this quilt off and on since May of 2008. I have it completely basted but not completely sewn down. Here are a few of the stages of the quilt.

I made Karlee a tree skirt for Christmas. It was the dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Quick 9 patch

I had a bunch of fabric squares lying around and I decided to make a fast 9 patch quilt. This is a pretty large top. About 65x65. It is made out of Christmas themed fabric. It took me most of a two days to make the top. My hands got really tired from using the rotary cutter.

Valentine's Quilt

I made this quilt last spring but I just finished it in January. I had to sew the binding on and now the cats are using it everyday when they take a nap on my living room chair.

Freddy's Girl

I learned how to make these from a class I took years ago from Freddy Moran. I just love the use of different fabrics for her dress.

Pink Birthday Owl

This is an owl christmas ornament that I made for my friend Mary Lou's 60th birthday. I think she looks very sweet in pink.
